Most couples looking for a forest wedding venue in Indiana are trying to describe a feeling more than a place. Trees overhead instead of a ceiling. Light coming through leaves instead of off a chandelier. Somewhere the photos take care of themselves. Highland Oaks Weddings and Events is 36 acres of that in Palmyra, Indiana, about 25 minutes from Louisville.
A Ceremony in the Trees, Not a Photo of One
There is a difference between a venue with trees on the property line and a venue where you actually get married among them. Our ceremony site sits in the trees, with old oaks standing over the aisle and wooded hills behind you. You are not looking at a parking lot over the officiant’s shoulder. There is no road noise, no neighboring event, no second wedding running an hour behind yours somewhere else on the grounds. The whole property is yours for the day.
It is the kind of setting people go looking for in a state park and then discover they cannot reserve, cannot decorate, cannot serve alcohol at, and cannot guarantee. Here you can do all four.
Woods, Open Lawn and a Barn on One Property
The forest is the reason most couples call, but it is the combination that makes the day work. You get the wooded ceremony site, an open lawn for cocktails and portraits, and a restored barn that seats up to 300 for the reception. All three are a short walk apart, which means no shuttle, no second location, and no gap in your timeline while 200 guests drive somewhere.

The Woods Change With the Season
A forest venue is not the same venue in April and October, and that is the point. Spring brings new green and a soft, filtered light that photographers love. Summer gives you deep shade at the ceremony site when the open lawns are too warm. Fall is the reason our peak season runs through November, when the oaks turn and the whole treeline goes gold and rust. Winter strips it back to bare structure and long views through the trunks, which is quieter and, frankly, much cheaper.
Harrison County is well suited to this. The property sits in the same stretch of Southern Indiana as O’Bannon Woods, Harrison-Crawford State Forest and the Blue River, so guests driving in are already in the landscape before they arrive. What a Forest Wedding Here Costs
Venue rental runs $1,900 to $5,995 depending on the season and the day of the week. That is the whole property for 12 hours, plus an hour for your rehearsal, for up to 300 guests. Peak months are April, May, September, October and November. A Friday or a Sunday outside those months sits at the low end. Every rate and add-on is published on our pricing page.
Common Questions
Is the ceremony actually in the woods, or just near them?
In them. The ceremony site is under the trees. If you would rather not be under the canopy, you also have two other ceremony sites to choose from: one in the open field, and one under the barn.
What happens if it rains?
The reception barn on the property becomes your ceremony space. It is included, not an upgrade, and it is a 30-second walk rather than a drive.
How many guests can you seat?
Up to 300.
Can we bring our own alcohol?
No. All alcohol at Highland Oaks is served through the venue.
When are the woods at their best?
Late October is the most requested. Late April and early May are the quiet favorite, and they are easier to book.
Come Walk It
