If you have been searching for barn wedding venues in Indiana, you already know the range is enormous. Some barns are working farm buildings with a rented tent out back. Others are new construction dressed up to look old. Highland Oaks Weddings and Events is a real barn on 36 acres in Palmyra, about 25 minutes from Louisville, and it was built to actually host a wedding rather than just photograph like one.
What to look for in an Indiana barn wedding venue
Most couples tour three or four barns before they book one, and the differences that matter are rarely the ones you notice first. Almost every barn photographs beautifully. What separates them is what happens when 200 people show up and the forecast changes.
The questions worth asking on every tour: where do guests go if it rains, and can that space actually seat everyone. How is the barn heated and cooled. What is the real capacity with tables and a dance floor, not the fire-code number. Where do you get ready, and is it on the property. What is included in the rental and what turns into a line item later. Whether you tour Highland Oaks or somewhere else, those five questions will tell you more than anything on a website.
The barn at Highland Oaks
The barn seats up to 300 guests and carries the character you want from a barn wedding venue: timber, height, and warm light in the evening. It sits on 36 acres of rolling hills and old oaks along Highway 150 in Harrison County, so the property around it does as much work as the building does.
Practically, the barn is your reception space, and it can be your ceremony space too. There is a covered area that keeps guests comfortable and dry, a loading prep kitchen with a cooler and freezer for your caterer, and space heaters and fans so the room works in October and in July. Our staff sets the barn up the morning of your wedding and has everything finished by noon.
Your rain plan is the barn, not a maybe
This is the single most important thing to settle before you book any outdoor or barn venue in Indiana, and it is where a lot of couples get caught. Some venues will tell you they have a rain plan and mean a tent you have to rent yourself, on 48 hours notice, at a price nobody quoted you.
At Highland Oaks the rain plan is the barn. It is covered, it is already yours for the day, and moving your ceremony inside costs you nothing extra. You do not have to make the call weeks out or gamble on a forecast. That is worth more in June in southern Indiana than almost anything else on a venue comparison sheet.
A forest ceremony site, an open lawn, and room to spread out
A barn is the anchor, but it should not be the only thing you get. Highland Oaks has a forest ceremony site under mature trees, an open lawn for couples who want sky and hills behind them, and enough acreage that your photographer is not shooting the same three backdrops all evening.
Getting ready happens on site. There is a Bridal Cottage Home and a Groom’s Barn Suite, both open at 9am, so nobody is driving in from a hotel in a dress. The cottage can also be added for the night before for $500, based on availability, which is how a lot of our couples keep their closest people on the property the whole weekend.

Catering is open, so you bring whichever caterer you want. Alcohol is not open: for licensing and liability reasons all alcohol and all bartending run through Highland Oaks, with cash bar, open bar and custom bar tab options depending on what you want to spend. It is worth knowing that going in, because it is the rule most couples do not think to ask about until late.
What a barn wedding costs in Indiana
Barn venues across Indiana generally run somewhere between about $2,000 and $8,000 for the space, and the spread comes down to the day of the week, the month, and how much is bundled in. Saturdays in October cost what they cost everywhere.
Our rates are published rather than quoted, so you can do the math before you tour. Peak season runs April, May, and September through November: $5,595 on Saturday, $3,900 Friday or Sunday, $2,900 Monday through Thursday. Off season runs December through March and June through August: $4,995 Saturday, $2,900 Friday or Sunday, and $1,900 Monday through Thursday. If your date is flexible, an off-season Friday at Highland Oaks costs about half of a peak Saturday and the barn is exactly the same barn.
Add-ons are priced individually so you only buy what you need: a coordinator, a five hour rehearsal dinner space, floral ceremony decor, wooden chairs in place of the included plastic ones, speaker rental, extended hours. The full pricing page lists every rate and every add-on.
Getting here, and where your guests stay
Highland Oaks is at 4175 US-150 in Palmyra, Indiana. Louisville is about 25 minutes southeast, Indianapolis about 90 minutes north, and Evansville and Bloomington are both an easy drive. Guests coming from Louisville cross the Ohio River and are on quiet country roads within minutes, and there is plenty of parking on site.
Hotels in Corydon and New Albany are 15 to 25 minutes away, which is close enough for a room block without a long drive back after the reception. Corydon was Indiana’s first state capital and is about 20 minutes out, with restaurants and shops for a rehearsal dinner or a morning-after brunch. Harrison-Crawford State Forest, O’Bannon Woods and the Blue River are all nearby if your guests are making a weekend of it.
Come walk the property
Barns are hard to judge from photos. The scale reads differently in person, and so does the light. Tours run about 45 minutes and we walk the whole property, so you can stand in the barn, see the forest ceremony site, and get a real answer to every one of those five questions above.
