If you live in Louisville and dream of a barn wedding without the long drive, Highland Oaks Weddings and Events is closer than you think. Our venue in Palmyra, Indiana, sits just 25 minutes from downtown Louisville, right off I-64. Close enough for a weeknight tour after work, far enough to feel like you have escaped the city entirely.
Why Louisville Couples Choose Highland Oaks
Louisville has no shortage of event spaces, but couples who want something different keep finding their way to us. The appeal is simple: wide-open land, a restored barn with real character, and a property that feels personal rather than commercial. You get the rustic Southern Indiana setting your Pinterest board has been building toward, without asking your guests to drive three hours to get there.
Most Louisville guests are here in about 25 minutes. Several of our couples have told us their guests actually preferred the trip out to Palmyra over fighting for parking downtown. There is something about crossing the river and heading into the Indiana countryside that puts people in the right mood for a celebration.
Just a Short Drive from Louisville
Easy Logistics for Your Louisville Guests
One of the biggest questions couples ask is whether their guests will mind the drive. Here is what we have seen: they do not. The route from Louisville is straightforward (I-64 West to state roads), and there are hotels in Corydon, New Albany, and along the I-64 corridor for guests who want to stay overnight. Many couples set up room blocks in Corydon or New Albany, both about 20 minutes from the venue, giving guests easy access to restaurants and activities for a full wedding weekend.
We also have ample on-site parking, so carpooling and rideshares from nearby hotels work well. No parking garages, no one-way streets, no meters. Just pull up and walk in.
An Outdoor Ceremony With a Real Rain Plan
Most Louisville couples arrive wanting the same two things: an outdoor ceremony, and some assurance they will not lose the day to weather. Highland Oaks gives you both. Ceremonies happen outside on the grounds, under the oaks and along the forest treeline, with 36 acres of open Southern Indiana country behind you. If the forecast turns, the restored barn is already on the property and already yours for the full rental. Nothing has to be tented at the last minute, nobody drives anywhere, and the day does not change shape.
That pairing is harder to find close to the city than most couples expect. A downtown venue gives you a room. This gives you the outdoors, with a roof already standing a short walk away.
What a Barn Wedding Near Louisville Costs
Venue rental at Highland Oaks runs $1,900 to $5,995, depending on the season and the day of the week. That covers the property for 12 hours, plus an hour for your rehearsal, for up to 300 guests. Peak months are April, May, September, October and November, so a Friday or Sunday outside those months sits at the low end of the range. Every rate and every add-on is published on our pricing page. A venue that will not give you a number until you book is wasting your time.
Where Your Guests Can Stay
Highland Oaks is at 4175 US Highway 150 in Palmyra, Indiana. For guests coming in from out of town, or anyone who would rather not drive home at midnight, hotels in Corydon and New Albany sit 15 to 25 minutes from the property. If you want the full picture of the grounds and the barn itself, our Indiana barn wedding venue page walks through the space in detail.
Common Questions From Louisville Couples
Can we hold the ceremony outside and the reception in the barn?
Yes. That is how most weekends here run, and it is the reason the barn exists on a property this size.
How many guests can you seat?
Up to 300.
Can we bring our own alcohol?
No. All alcohol at Highland Oaks is served through the venue.
How far ahead should we book?
Peak Saturdays in April, May, September, October and November go first, often more than a year out. Off-peak dates open up much closer in.
Is it really only 25 minutes?
From downtown Louisville, yes. Plan on a little more from the east end at rush hour.
What comes with the venue rental?
Every rental includes the full 36 acres, the barn, the lawn and the forest ceremony site, plus tables and chairs set up and taken down for up to 300 guests, hi-boy cocktail tables, a 12 hour rental window, an hour of rehearsal time, the Groom’s Barn Suite and the Bridal Cottage Home, a private engagement photoshoot on the property, a loading prep kitchen, our preferred vendor list, and space heaters and fans.
Where do we get ready on the day?
On site. The Groom’s Barn Suite and the Bridal Cottage Home are both included in the rental, so nobody is driving in from a hotel in a dress. If you would rather wake up here, a night before cottage stay is $500, reservable starting 90 days before your wedding.
What does a Saturday cost?
A peak season Saturday is $5,995. An off season Saturday is $4,995. Peak season is April, May, September, October and November; everything else is off season, and weekdays and Sundays cost less than either.
See the Space in Person
Photos are great, but they do not capture what it feels like to stand under the oaks or walk through the barn doors for the first time. If you are in Louisville, a tour is an easy after-work trip. We will walk the property with you, talk through your ideas, and give you an honest sense of whether Highland Oaks is the right fit for your day.
